Masaki participated in this event as a member of Rio 2016 team “Japan”, and got 2nd place in the 100-meter backstroke!
All the member of Rio 2016 assembled on Japan Open 2016. Masaki got 2nd place in the 100-meter backstroke at this important event for Rio 2016 that had world’s nation member included Australia. In 200-mater backstroke, Masaki understood a problem. He said “I’m going to adjust in practice from now on and want to get my personal record at next race in middle of June at US”.

Masaki achieved 2nd place by 200-meter backstroke, bettering dispatch standard record by 0.27 seconds and captured the representative of national team member of Rio de Janeiro Olympic games in August 2016. Masaki created a higher goal, he said “Although I was in bad condition, I could do good race finally thanks to the people who have supported me. I want to aim to get the medal with Ryosuke Irie at Rio de Janeiro”

Masaki achieved his personal best in all three races at the New Year Tokyo swimming tournament that had strong swimmers they are aiming to Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. We could watch the result of high‐altitude training Masaki has done in this holiday season. His training must be proceeded well for the Rio de Janeiro Olympic trials in April.

Masaki got six medals at a World Cup that strong swimmers participated in.
Masaki got six medals at this meeting that had many strong swimmers including Mitchell Larkin (from Australia) who won 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke at the World cup in August. We are sure this experience will lead to a good result at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic trials in the next year.

Masaki participated in the FINA World Championships for the first time! Masaki couldn’t step forward to the final but tied his personal best record by the 50-meter backstroke.
The 16th FINA World Championships are held in Kazan, Russia. Masaki participated for the first time for a world's best jump-off of the swimming to be held on the scale more than the Olympics once in two years. In the severe condition including difference in time and the environmental difference, Masaki rebuilt condition little by little and faced it, but Masaki couldn’t step forward to the final regrettably. However, Masaki tied his personal best record by the 50-meter backstroke. Masaki promised a leap in the summer of next year by using the experience of this championships.

Succeeded to update his personal best in three events!
Advanced to the final in both 100M and 200M Backstroke. Ryosuke Irie, champion in fourth-lane, Kosuke Hagino, aiming to be champion in five events in fifth-lane and Masaki Kaneko in sixth-lane. For Masaki, the existence of Irie was far away in his sight in his past time, but the present when he raised a competition power is this changed to "a person to aim as the final target".
Masaki aimed at a winners' podium in this event when I could fight in the world if I could beat Irie.
“I was glad to update my best time with three participated events, however, my time of the aim was more tops. It is very regrettable for me that I could not achieve";Masaki said.
Masaki will utilize this experience and intend to connect it for next step.
